DESCRIPTION
UCAR® RP-4 Cold Carbon Ram is granular graphite ram with a maximum particle size of 6.4 mm (¼ inch). It is specifically designed for room temperature (approximately 21°C/70°F), high pressure ramming of large sections contained behind forms around blast furnace bottoms, in cupola linings, and in other metallurgical applications where ram can be contained. It can be used for spot patching and as an inner lining for troughs and cupola linings.


PACKAGING
RP-4 Ram is packaged inside a corrugated fiberboard carton. The bag can be folded to make it airtight as the ram is used. Each carton contains 22.7 Kg (50 pounds) of RP-4 Ram.
 
CONSISTENCY
At room temperature (approximately 21°C/70°F), RP-4 Cold Carbon Ram's consistency is plastic.
PREPARATION FOR USE UCAR® RP-4 Cold Carbon Ram is ready for use as it comes from the bag.  Simply warm to room temperature (approximately 21°C/70°F) and pour into the confined space.
 
SURFACE PREPARATION
Brush surfaces thoroughly with a stiff brush or vacuum clean the area.
 
METHOD OF APPLYING UCAR RP-4 RAM
RP-4 Ram should be tamped into place with a pneumatic rammer. RP-4 should always be rammed into an enclosed space or behind fabricated wooden or steel forms. No more than 150mm (or 6 inch) layer of loose ram should be tamped at one time. Deeper voids should be rammed in several layers to assure proper densification.
 
CURING OF UCAR RP-4 RAM
RP-4 Ram sets upon exposure to air. The final thermal set takes place with the normal heat generated by the metallurgical process.
 
STORAGE
Store RP-4 Ram in a cool, dry place and avoid freezing. RP-4, as packaged, is designed to provide adequate time between purchase and application. Shelf life, however, is not unlimited. Since RP-4 Ram is not recoverable once it has set-up, STORAGE SHOULD NOT EXCEED ONE YEAR AFTER MANUFACTURE.
